In partnership with federal agencies, BNPD detectives were able to make two arrests in a recent elder fraud scheme in which a local victim came close to losing their life savings. Following large amounts of money being intercepted by investigators, BNPD detectives contacted the sender, who thought they were sending the money to the U.S. Treasury following supposed personal information being compromised from a computer virus and a promise from the suspect posing as a U.S.

Benton Police Department’s K9 Nino has received a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.  K9 Nino’s vest was sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and embroidered with the sentiment “In memory of K9 Gabo, Jonesboro, AR - EOW 1/16/20”.

BNPD officers were made aware of a possible threat against Angie Grant Elementary late Tuesday/ early Wednesday. The suspect was identified and brought in for questioning early Wednesday.

Further investigation revealed that 61-year-old William Boyd, of Benton, had sent the messages in question, and he was subsequently charged with Communicating a False Alarm.

BNPD officers responded to the 17,900 block of the North Service Road of I-30 just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday in reference to a pedestrian vs. vehicle fatality accident. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult female suffering from fatal injuries. The victim was identified as 52-year-old Lori Burrow, of Benton.

BNPD officers responded to the 17,900 block of the North Service Road of I-30 just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday in reference to a pedestrian vs. vehicle fatality accident. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult female suffering from fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. No identification is being released pending notification of next of kin.

Zavier Rhodes

Two suspects were taken into custody early Monday morning in reference to multiple Breaking or Entering incidents in the city of Benton.

Twenty-year-old Zavier Rhodes, of North Little Rock, and a juvenile male, also of North Little Rock, were taken into custody following a report of subjects breaking into vehicles in the Eagle Point subdivision. A vehicle pursuit followed and concluded when the suspects wrecked out and fled on foot.

Benton Police Department was recently awarded funds through the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership to form an Overdose Response Team. The team has now been approved for funding for the Naloxone Hero Program, which will enable naloxone dissemination and training for families and community members in Saline County.

Peer Recovery Specialist Sean Willits’ role is to help community members in their recovery journey, and this opportunity helps further his efforts.

Benton Police Department was recently awarded funds through the Arkansas Opioid Recovery Partnership to form an Overdose Response Team. Overdose Response Teams through ARORP enable law enforcement agencies to hire an overdose investigator and a Peer Recovery Specialist. Sean Willits is the Peer Recovery Specialist and is available now to help community members in their recovery journey.
